Course Of Study

Faith Academy offers Standard Diplomas and College Preparatory Diplomas with Advanced Academic Endorsement. After carefully deciding which diploma you are seeking, make your course selections. To facilitate scheduling and to keep classes balanced, students must stay within their chosen course of study. Exceptions will be made on an individual basis and only for valid reasons. All students must have 28 credits to graduate.

Dual Enrollment

Faith Academy encourages qualified students to pursue dual enrollment as part of our commitment to rigorous college preparation. Through partnerships with Bishop State Community College and Coastal Alabama Community College, eligible students may earn both high school and college credit while completing graduation requirements.

Dual enrollment provides students with the opportunity to earn high school and college credit for college-level coursework, strengthen academic skills, explore future career interests, and potentially reduce the time and cost required to complete a college degree.

Participation in dual enrollment is contingent upon meeting the admission and placement requirements of the partnering institution, as well as all academic expectations set by Faith Academy. Students and parents are encouraged to meet with their academic advisor to determine whether dual enrollment is an appropriate part of the student's educational plan.

Graduation Requirements

Faith Academy offers two types of diplomas: standard and advanced with academic endorsement. Additionally, students working toward advanced diplomas must have a 3.5 weighted average over four years (9th–12th). Honors classes receive five quality points instead of the usual four for regular classes.

For graduation, students must complete 28 Carnegie Units, including the requirements listed under academic requirements in the Student Handbook.

There are two graduation requirements for all seniors to promote higher learning and help students achieve their full potential. These two requirements for graduation are as follows:

  • Each senior must take the ACT before graduating.
  • Each senior must apply to at least one institution of higher learning before graduating.

Information Concerning Valedictorian and Salutatorian

To be considered for valedictorian or salutatorian, a student must be in the Honors Program. Judgments will be based on weighted GPA. The GPA calculated for valedictorian and salutatorian is based on their four advanced core classes (grades 9-12) and three advanced electives (grades 10-12). If there is a tie, the student with the highest numerical average will be the valedictorian. The student must have attended Faith Academy since his or her junior year. Homeschool grades will not be considered as part of the student’s cumulative GPA.
