Mission Statement
It is the mission of Faith Academy to offer quality Christian education in a safe, clean and orderly environment. Faith Academy seeks to enroll average ability students from primarily middle class socio-economic level. We believe that children have a right to a sound, Christian education. Faith Academy provides a learning center for students with special learning handicaps, as well as honors classes for gifted learners. Faith Academy endeavors to provide for our students’ spiritual, artistic, athletic, social and personal needs through our daily school program and extracurricular activities.
Statement of Beliefs
- Faith Academy is a ministry to which each and every person on staff is called by God. The students are entrusted to us by God.
- Every student is given the opportunity to receive Jesus as his Lord and Savior. This decision will come freely and truthfully
from the student’s heart. Each person must believe for himself, be baptized for himself, obey for himself and answer to his
Savior for himself.
- Student learning is a priority for our school. Academics are integrated with a Christian world view.
- All students can learn in a safe environment in which God is a primary focus.
- Each student is a valued, unique individual and should feel loved.
- A Christian school, through dedicated, well-trained Christian teachers, should instill Christian principles in all students.
- Teachers, staff, administrators, parents, students and community members share responsibility of guiding students to become
good citizens.
- Cultural diversity can increase students’ understanding of different peoples and cultures.
- Clear goals and high expectations for student achievement guide the development of a Christian curriculum and the design of
instructional strategies and learning activities.
- Assessments and evaluations of student learning should provide students with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate
their achievement of the expectations of their learning.
- Students learn in different ways and should be provided with a variety of instructional approaches to support their learning.
- Exceptional students require special services and resources.
- Community outreach allows students to put into practice the spiritual principles encouraged at Faith Academy.
- The commitment to continuous improvement is imperative if our school is to enable students to become confident,
self-directed lifelong learners.
Our History
The vision for Faith Academy was born in early 1967 at a men’s prayer meeting one Saturday night in the sanctuary of Lott Road Baptist Church in Eight Mile, Alabama. The burning desire on the hearts of these dedicated men was to provide a quality Christian education for children and young people. They were determined to provide a place for Bible study, prayer, worship and a quality educational program. However, this dream was not realized until 1969. It was then that Lott Road Christian Grade School was begun in a single, two-story building located behind Lott Road Baptist Church. The school had 170 students in grades one through six and eight teachers.
The administration and leadership soon realized that building and maintaining a Christian school that would assure parents of a quality education within a Christian environment would require a walk of FAITH. Therefore, it was decided in school year 1971-1972 to change the name of Lott Road Christian School to Faith Academy. Today, by faith, the name stands.
Faith Academy grew rapidly. By school year 1972-1973 enrollment increased to 547 students in grades one through twelve. In this same year seventeen students graduated. It was not until the school year 1975-1976 that kindergarten was added.
Faith remained at the Lott Road site for nineteen years. The school moved to the present site on Tanner Williams Road in Mobile, Alabama, in the summer of 1988. The enrollment remained at approximately 500 students in grades kindergarten through twelve.
During the 1990-1991 school year, the school was accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association. By this time the enrollment had grown to 570 students.
Today, the school is accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Faith Academy’s current enrollment has reached over 2100 students. Children from three years old to seniors are taught daily.
Our Facilities
Campus
The grounds encompass approximately fifty-three acres in West Mobile. We have seven buildings which house kindergarten through twelfth grade. (click here for a campus map) Faith's Main Building is used primarily for grades nine through twelve and consists of eighteen classrooms (including two computer labs and a science lab) and also includes our cafeteria. Each of our classrooms are approximately 30’ x 30’, are carpeted and individually heated and cooled.
The arts building houses the band hall and a choral room, both of which have an office area, two practice rooms, and storage; an art room; and a piano lab which has three practice rooms. In addition, there are two restrooms in the arts building.
Playground
A continuing goal within our school is the safety of our playground area and adequate facilities for our students to enjoy. There are five fenced acres for our preschool and elementary students. This facility contains a multitude of playground equipment including our newest addition, a multi-purpose wave slide, fireman’s pole, and small rock wall which our kids really enjoy.
Learning Environment
The utmost need at any school is to maintain a learning environment which will enable students to learn quickly and efficiently. Through our school-wide Assertive Discipline Program, students are taught the classroom rules during the first few days of school. Some teachers may even quiz students on the rules, thus making sure that everyone is keenly aware of what type of behavior is expected. Students generally embrace an atmosphere which is controlled with safeguards in place to ensure their safety and well being. Faith Academy also expects teachers to keep clean orderly classrooms reflecting the subject matter or grade level. Colorful bulletin boards along with learning centers and neat desks are a few of the expectations of our teachers. Each of our classrooms are approximately 30’ x 30’, are carpeted and individually heated and cooled.
Technology
Faiths' school-wide technology plan includes: Internet access for faculty and students, Alabama Virtual Library cards, Edline, a designated school web-site, library with Internet access, a Cisco Certified Network Association (CCNA) training facility, computer curriculum with two computer labs, and an adequate number of computers for our student population.
All classrooms have Internet access which are used as teaching aids. Students have access to the Internet in the Library Media Center from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily. In addition, each student may gain Internet access to the resources of the Alabama Virtual Library at home by using their AVL card.
Faith Academy uses the Edline online educational tool. This exciting program greatly improves communication with our parents. Edline gives both students and parents the ability to:
- Check student's latest grades online
- Receive e-mails with school or class information
- See what homework is due or not turned in
- View due dates of projects and guidelines for those projects
- View class work, assignments and quiz/test dates
- View team and club activities
- View a calendar showing all of your child's activities
Faith also offers the Cisco Systems Network Training Certification Program elective for Juniors and Seniors. This program provides students with the opportunity to graduate with a Cisco Certified Network Association (CCNA) certification. The demand for students who have completed this course is high and Faith is excited to be able to offer this program as part of our curriculum.
Library
The heart of any school is its library or media center. The Faith Academy library has over 14,200 volumes, all cataloged into our computerized Athena System, a library cataloging system used by some of the most elite schools nation-wide. The library also has 28 computer stations for students’ internet use. (All internet use is filtered). The library is always clean, inviting and ready for use. Mrs. Jennifer Boleman is our librarian.
